In Honor of Outstanding Volunteers
Thank you to all Rush Oak Park Hospital volunteers, who last year donated more than 15,000 hours of their time and talent.
Oak Park, IL
(April 22, 2010) —
Rush Oak Park Hospital honored its outstanding volunteers with an appreciation dinner and awards ceremony during National Volunteer Appreciation Week, April 19 to 25.
Last year Rush Oak Park Hospital volunteers donated a total of more than 15,000 hours. Rush Oak Park Hospital is especially grateful for their ongoing support during what nationally has been a very difficult economic time.
At the awards dinner, Chicago resident Saul Carter was named the 2010 Volunteer of the Year. Mr. Carter worked as a department manager at Brach’s for 33 years before retiring. In retirement, he has been just as committed to Rush Oak Park Hospital, volunteering two to three days a week in the Medical Records Department for more than 18 years. Mr. Carter volunteered 701 hours in 2009—more hours than any other Rush Oak Park Hospital volunteer—and has contributed more than 400 hours annually for the entire time he has served as a volunteer.
“He is conscientious, dependable, and has excellent organizational skills—not to mention he’s a great dresser!” said Gloria Mannina, manager of Medical Records.
Mr. Carter was one of five Rush Oak Park Hospital volunteers to earn the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for contributing more than 400 hours of service in 2009. The other recipients were: Lisa Cozzi, 446 volunteer hours; Pat LaJoy, 465 hours; Warren Gilmore, 606 hours; and Vicki Pacholski, 632 hours. These five individuals were responsible for a combined total of 2,850 volunteer hours in 2009.
As part of their award, each received a certificate and pin from the Presidential Volunteer Service Program, an initiative of the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation in conjunction with the Corporation for National and Community Service. They also received a letter of congratulations on White House letterhead signed by the President thanking them for their time, service and contribution to their community and country.
Also honored at the awards dinner for one year of service were: Anna Bianchi, Jay Dani, Chernalyn Gaela, Tamika Hall, Pat LaJoy, Janelle Macabulous, Michael Maly, Tina Norton, Vicki Pacholski, Rose Slimak, Marilyn Stummeier and Cecille Wege. For five years of service: Dolores Dubowski and Debbie Thompson. For 10 years of service: Joan Dunn and Shirley Esenther. For 15 years of service: Lynne Higgins. For 20 years of service: Jack Kernan, Claire Lareau and Margaret Zangrilli.
Rush Oak Park Hospital volunteers serve in almost every hospital department, including Dietary, Telemetry, Spiritual Care, Same-Day Surgery, Marketing, Infection Control and Employee Health. Thanks to all volunteers for their dedication and commitment.
