In addition to being nationally recognized for inpatient diabetes care, Rush Oak Park Hospital has been recognized by HealthGrades® for excellence in joint replacement, total knee replacement and gastrointestinal care.
Oak Park, IL
(May 5, 2010) —
Because every patient deserves the best treatment, staff members at Rush Oak Park Hospital strive every day to provide a safe environment and high-quality care.
Efforts are paying off.
In addition to being nationally recognized for inpatient diabetes care, Rush Oak Park Hospital has been recognized by HealthGrades® for excellence in joint replacement, total knee replacement and gastrointestinal care.
Rush Oak Park Hospital was named No. 1 in Illinois for GI Care in 2010 by HealthGrades®, earned the Gastrointestinal Care Excellence Award, and was rated with five stars for GI medical treatment and overall GI services. Continuing its streak of top-quality care, Rush Oak Park Hospital also ranked among the top 15 percent of hospitals nationwide for joint replacement care and earned a five-star rating for total knee replacement for the third year in a row (2008 to 2010), according to the study. It also was named best in the Chicago West Region* for joint replacement in 2010. For a full list of ratings, please visit www.healthgrades.com.
In addition to these achievements, the Inpatient Diabetes Management program again was awarded the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ for health care quality. Rush Oak Park Hospital is one of seven hospitals in the country and the only hospital in Illinois to earn certification for advanced inpatient diabetes care. Rush Oak Park Hospital follows evidence-based guidelines and standards developed by the Joint Commission and the American Diabetes Association in caring for hospitalized patients with diabetes. Outpatients who utilize the Center for Diabetes and Endocrine Care (CDEC) receive the benefits of complete diabetes education.
Renovations to the Same-Day Surgery Unit will improve the patient and family experience by focusing on their comfort and convenience. The Cafeteria also will be remodeled with a new, modern look in coming months. These projects come on the heels of an Emergency Department expansion that included several changes consistent with national patient safety standards. A nurse on the triage team now greets and assesses within minutes patients who walk into the Emergency Department. Fast Track also is now open five days a week during some of the busiest hours. This integral part of the Emergency Department focuses specifically on meeting the medical needs of patients whose health problems are not life-threatening. These changes are in line with Rush Oak Park Hospital Emergency Department’s mission to provide exceptional quality of care with the shortest possible waiting times.
Rush University Medical Center assumed full management of operations in 1997, bringing to Rush Oak Park Hospital its renowned services, programs and physicians. As an affiliate of Wheaton Franciscan Services, Inc., Rush Oak Park Hospital is committed to a healing ministry by providing exceptional and compassionate health care service that promotes the dignity and well-being of the people it serves.
Rush Oak Park Hospital’s recent achievements and changes reflect its affiliations, and result from hard work and steadfast commitment to its mission.
