Celebrating Our Outstanding Nursing Staff

During Nurses Week, Rush Oak Park Hospital thanks its nursing staff and honors the winners of its 2010 Clinical Nursing Excellence Awards.

Oak Park, IL (May 10, 2010) — In recognition of outstanding clinical performance, Rush Oak Park Hospital is proud to present its 2010 Clinical Nursing Excellence Awards to Linda Buscher, RN, Tracelli Rockford, PCT, and James Haukland, EMT-P.

The awards are presented every year to members of the clinical nursing staff who demonstrate superior care, technical skills and leadership.

Linda Buscher, RN, has lived within walking distance of Rush Oak Park Hospital since she started working here in 1976. As a night nurse on the Medical/Surgical Unit, she is a leader who provides support to patients and her fellow nursing staff. Buscher delegates so that patients’ assignments reflect their needs and their nurses’ abilities. Her years of experience have made her approachable and understanding, and she willingly shares her knowledge. At the core of her approach to nursing is a firm commitment to patient care: “just being there for the patient, keeping them safe and comfortable,” Buscher says. “I enjoy nights because I spend more time with the patients. I enjoy talking to them, learning from them and helping them.”

Tracelli Rockford, PCT, has a smile to remember. “A lot of patients will be in pain but if I come in with a smile, it pretty much makes their day,” Rockford says. “It’s wonderful when a patient knows your schedule, who you are and your name ... It makes me feel like I accomplish something.” Rockford works part-time on the Skilled Care Unit at Rush Oak Park Hospital while going to school to become an RN. On her unit, she is known for the care and concern she shows patients. In addition to her teamwork and follow-through with the rest of the nursing staff, Rockford works hard to keep patients comfortable, safe and secure. Residents she cares for are happy and ready for therapy. “I enjoy what I do,” Rockford says. “If you enjoy what you do, you don’t work a day in your life.”

James Haukland, EMT-P, enjoys being involved. In addition to being an ED Tech at Rush Oak Park Hospital, Haukland teaches CPR and ACLS, and soon will complete PALS instructor training. He also volunteers on several Hospital committees. “We not only work here, but this is where we come and where are families come,” Haukland says. He is active with the Illinois Medical Emergency Response Team and teaches CPR in the community. When it comes to caring for patients in the Emergency Department, Haukland makes sure to treat them with respect and compassion. He started working in health care for “the immediate satisfaction of helping somebody,” he says. “If you can make somebody feel better or calm them down, it’s a nice feeling.”

Congratulations to the three award winners and to members of the nursing staff who have earned certifications through their national professional organizations. Thank you to the entire nursing staff at Rush Oak Park Hospital for your dedicated care.
