Excellence in Emergency Medicine
The Emergency Department earned national recognition when it was identified among the top 5 percent in the nation.
Oak Park, IL
(July 21, 2010) —
Rush Oak Park Hospital recently became one of 255 hospitals nationally to be awarded the 2010 Emergency Medicine Excellence Award™ by HealthGrades®.
In the past year Rush Oak Park Hospital has focused on improving the flow of patients through the Emergency Department through the use of a new triage system and the addition of Fast Track. As a result of those changes, wait times for emergent cases have plummeted and the Emergency Department has garnered local and regional recognition.
Now, that recognition is national: HealthGrades’® first study of emergency medicine in American hospitals identified Rush Oak Park Hospital’s Emergency Department among the top 5 percent in the nation.
The HealthGrades® study looked at more than 5 million Medicare records for patients admitted through emergency departments at more than 4,900 hospitals for 11 common life-threatening diagnoses. Compared with other hospitals, Rush Oak Park Hospital’s Emergency Department had a 39 percent lower risk-adjusted mortality rate for Medicare patients from 2006 to 2008, and demonstrated an average overall improvement in risk-adjusted mortality of 16 percent.
